Good Friday, snowed in

Here are a couple photos of our mini-blizzard on Good Friday.

In the photo above, there is a man with a snow blower clearing a parking lot. He is located on the left-hand side of the photo just in front of the trees. That is our flower on our balcony on the right-hand side.

The bet

Today I was reminded of a conversation I had with Vilay last year. We were discussing our move to Switzerland.
I asked him if he were sure about moving to the country of endless snow. He hates snow as much as I do did.
He told me that in Switzerland it didn’t snow more than [...]

Interlaken

Saturday, we found ourselves in Interlaken. It was a sunny Spring like day filled with the beauty of the Alps.
Below, is a photo of a wooden bear holding an edelweiss flower.

Do you see the cow sticking out of the corner of the building?

Interlaken was busy with people out and about. The traditional Alpine [...]

Hippity hoppity Easter’s on its way

Here are some images of our first Easter in Switzerland.
A photo of a kind of a traditional Easter Rabbit cake that is not very sweet but good all the same. I bought the brightly colored eggs from a woman who was selling them to raise money for the handicapped.

We tried to eat the eggs [...]

Signs of Spring

Spring flowers are pushing through the earth to stretch in the warm sun.

The water has thawed in this small pond.

The ants are busy.

Horses are out and about leaving their tracks in the soft ground.

Sweet Bear sings

Sweet Bear loves to sing her favorite song she learned at l’ecole enfantine, Un petit bonhomme.
Un petit bonhomm’ s’en allant au bois
Quand il revenait il disait chaqu’fois
Atchoum! atchoum! atchoum! atchoum! atchoum!

American culture that warms my expat heart

I am not going mad.
It is 1:30 p.m. in the French speaking part of Switzerland.
My children are watching Cartoon Network France.
Tom and Jerry to be exact.
In English.
Just like my brother and I did as little kids.
It must be some sort of conspiracy to teach little French speaking kids English.
********I love hearing the cartoon characters from [...]

Duck feet

Holding my umbrella firmly in my hands, I used it as a shield to break the wind and rain as I pressed my way home.
A burst of wind whiped under the umbrella forcefully lifting it up out of my hands. The umbrella was sent soaring down the street with me chasing after it.
What a [...]

My Mondays sans la Grosse Vache

I walk into the laundry room. All of the lines are full of clothes none of which are mine. It is Monday. The only day I can do my family’s laundry. This is the second week that the dryer has been broken. Last week, I hung my clothes all over [...]
