Some photos of when we were in the States two summers ago. My son was so little and this photo is too cute!
For you Mom!
My mother’s dog jumped up on my lap and my son giggled like mad as he caught her wagging tail.
I don’t know how many times my family has sat out on this deck or inside my mother’s dinning room looking out onto it. I can still remember when my oldest daughter who is now twelve would play in her baby pool out on this deck not long after my mother had it built. It seems like yesterday.
A fire hydrant in the States. I miss them. It is funny what you miss.
Autumn is always hard for me. I get really homesick when the leaves start changing and it hits hard. Thanksgiving is the hardest without my family back home in the States. I miss them.
My home is here in Switzerland. However, I will always refer to home as being in the States. I grew up there and it is who I am.
That will never change.

It’s the same for me! Autumn is my favorite time of the year and Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. Plus I always loved the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall, so it’s difficult not to be able to share that with my daughter. Someday, though!! I feel that France is my home and I’m comfortable here, but I’ll always be a little homesick around this time of year.
Pardon My French,
You know I thought the homesickness at this time of year would pass over time. Now I am not so sure. :)
I, too, would like to take my kids once more to the States for a visit when they are a little older so that they will remember it all. Perhaps, when my kids are teens they can stay with their grandparents for a summer?
Ah homesickness…it cuts like a knife, doesn’t it?
I am so sorry you feel homesick, it must be hard for you to be so far away…
This time of the year in the US is so nice especially the holiday season, it’s the decorations, the spirit of the holidays, the family dinner, it’s warm and cosy…
Caffienated Cowgirl,
It sure does. I can smell autumn in the air and that just does not help.
Sissi,
I miss it all! :)
It’s Ironic how I think, it’s so different..
I definitely miss different things. The price of shopping, less rain and my friends… That is it really.. Everything else in Switzerland and Canada is better for me.. Back where I was from, will always be just that, where I was…
ps – the fire hydrant and your son photos are so funny! :)
