Instead, they are called holiday trees or something similiar. It is because of the same fear of upsetting people that have immigrated to the US. I think it is silly. I can understand why you are frustrated. England has a rich history that should be celebrated and remembered. My husband and I talk about visiting the UK when we get a little ahead financially. I love the fact that you are so close to the other countries!! :-) The Uk does have some lovely places, but it is so expensive especially around the coast..and don't even think of going in holiday season!! The Uk is a mixed up land, no celebrations , not even for St Georges to celebrate for England, in fear of upsetting the ethnic people that have come here in there droves...and are still getting in...we are FULL!!! No festivals, no nothing!!! It is a daily challenge and it is exciting. I am never ever bored. When I went back to live in the States for six months it was hard because I understood everything and everyone. I missed the language and cultural challenges I had experienced in France. I missed waking up every day to discover something new. However, I have to say that there is a sort of freedom to walk anywhere that doesn't exist in the States. Here we can walk on a farmers land while in the States you could get a gun in your face for that. Also, I like being so close to other countries that have different languages and cultures. Switerland is a little more special because of the fact that there are three main languages being spoken in one country and that each canton is a little unique and special with its own kind of culture. Everyone is rushing around in life while they are missing out on life. After moving to France I realized I was very close to a nervous break down and the slow pace of life in France made me nervous. You know in the lighting industry, they too take vacations during this time. Usually the factory is shut down for at least 2 wks in the summer. Nobody here in North American can live with it.
