04.20.08Sunset - MoonriseLiving in the mountains is living close to nature. I am continuously surprised by the beauty of the unexpected. We were walking in the mountains around our village when I turned to see the biggest moon coming up over the mountain. It was huge. It was breathtaking. 04.17.08The foreignerIs me. My small village is smothering the life out of me. I know I will never fit in this village. People in this village know each others families even two villages over. Swiss that move here from other areas of Switzerland (even the French speaking parts) are treated like foreigners. Here. In our village, I have no friends. None. The mothers of the kids that go to Sweet Bear's school are super nice but each time I think they are warming up to me I am reminded that I am a foreigner. 04.13.08A walk before bedtime makes for sweet dreamsWe needed to work out the cramps in our muscles from yesterdays long walk. After dinner was finished and the dishes cleaned up, we headed out for a walk. I think it took us longer to convince the kids to go and get their coats on than it did to take the walk. Once we got out of the village and in the mountains the kids went exploring in the fields and around trees. They didn't fight or argue. 04.13.08The Jura in springWe walked six miles over our beautiful mountains. The sky was immense. It was covered in a deep blue decorated with huge white fluffy clouds. It felt good to stretch our muscles on a weekend walk. We haven't been able to walk so far since before the snow started last year. We walked for three hours straight. 04.10.08Watch out for those worms!The kids had a blast walking to and from the bus stop today. The entertainment? Worms. Worm after worm dotted the walk because of the rain. In the photo above, Petite Clown almost squished one. She looked up at me with a big smile and said, "Boy, that was a close one!", in perfect English. Every two feet we would stop and watch a worm turn and squirm about. It was the highlight of our day. Sad, isn't it? The good news of the day? Spring is here. Finally. Proof. The snow markers have been taken down.

04.08.08Winter refused to leaveSnow rests on my mountains. Spring is napping off in other parts. I am watching small flakes of snow drifting slowly down past my living room window. 04.06.08Toétché recipeToétché is a speciality of the Jura canton of Switzerland. It is a cake but it is not sweet. There is no sugar called for in the recipe. However, it is very good.
