03.05.08Snowing like crazyWe got more snow last night and it is still coming down hard. It isn't supposed to stop until tonight. I had trouble walking because the snow was so slick. The kids loved slip sliding along. However, I think I hurt something on the third fall I took. In Ohio, the schools would have closed due to the amount of snow and it being somewhat slick. However, I think the Swiss are accustomed to snow like this. So, it isn't as big of a deal. One of the mothers told me that schools never close because of snow here. Our mountains are hidden ...

03.04.08Guess what we got last night?SNOW! It is still coming down. It has once again turned in to a winter wonderland here in the Jura. Beautiful. white. snow. everywhere. I guess I better go dig out all my kids snow suits I was silly enough to think they wouldn't be needing again this winter.

02.25.08Spring weather kind of dayOur family took it's usually Sunday stroll, yesterday. The weather was like spring. We had to take our coats off as we walked. The warmth of the sun thawed away our winter blues. I have loved winter here in the Jura but am ready for warmer weather. I miss walking every day. With the cold it is hard to walk with the kids because they complain they are cold the whole time. I took this photo out of the train window as we were about to enter Le Noirmont. 02.17.08Pain du JuraA photo of the the bread left over from breakfast. The pain du Jura (bread from the canton of the Jura, Switzerland) is known for it's slightly curved form. The outside of the bread is fine and crusty. What I ate for breakfast was a slice of bread heaven.

02.06.08Le Carnaval du NoirmontOn Sunday, we went to the Carnival of Noirmont. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that the cortège (procession) makes two rounds through the streets of Le Noirmont. At the tail of the parade was the beginning. We got to watch the carnival procession all over again. Even if my feet were frozen solid it was worth it because of the kids faces. There were some things that were different from parades and carnivals I have seen the the States and Strasbourg. In this carnival procession some of the participates carried around warm drinks (non-alcoholic) to offer to the spectators. ...

02.04.08Night of the BaitchaiOur village will be assaulted by the Baitchai tonight. Starting at around 10 p.m. men and women dressed in white will parade through the streets of our village playing musical instruments, banging on pots and pans or whatever else they are inspired by. Basically the goal is to make as much noise as humanly possible all throughout the night. I was told that it is impossible to sleep. Did I mention that it is cold outside? It is even colder at night. 02.02.08My Swiss Jura under the snowIt is magical. We don't have a car and take the train when we need things we can't buy in our village. Today was one of those days. It isn't hard to love taking the train and the view that goes along with it. We have Internet, a new memory card for one of the cameras and lots of catching up to do. I feel like I am connected to the world again after a long hibernation.
