02.26.08Choices at the groceryThe first few times I went through our village grocery store, Coop, I wondered how we would do it. It didn't seem that there were many choices. Sure we had all our basics. However, our Coop is about the same size if not smaller than most gas station convenience stores back in the States. Almost nine months later, I can say that it isn't harder not having all those choices. We are eating as we did before moving to Switzerland and have even added some Swiss favorites. So, it makes me wonder... Do we really need all those choices?

02.25.08Spring weather kind of dayOur family took it's usually Sunday stroll, yesterday. The weather was like spring. We had to take our coats off as we walked. The warmth of the sun thawed away our winter blues. I have loved winter here in the Jura but am ready for warmer weather. I miss walking every day. 02.21.08RejectedI just got back from checking the mail. Inside the box was my third rejection letter out of the five applications for employment I have mailed off. I understand that this is only the beginning. I started sending out applications only four weeks ago. More applications will be sent out and more rejection letters will be come back before I get a chance at an interview. Then, it is still not in the bag. 02.19.08Snow fenceI have lived in the mountains of Kentucky. Granted the mountains weren't as big as where we are in the Jura. But, we got snow. Lots of snow. Yet, I had never witnessed snow markers or snow fences (pictured above) being put up during winter. The first time I saw a snow marker was in the Black forest of Germany. 02.18.08Knotted heartAt least once a day I find a hidden heart in an unexpected place. I found this knotted heart shape during our Sunday walk, yesterday. Each time I find a heart I think of my oldest daughter who is living with her father in the States and I send her a little extra love. I think it happens too often to be a coincidence. What do you think? Do you find hidden symbols in your life?

02.17.08Pain du JuraA photo of the the bread left over from breakfast. The pain du Jura (bread from the canton of the Jura, Switzerland) is known for it's slightly curved form. The outside of the bread is fine and crusty. What I ate for breakfast was a slice of bread heaven.

02.16.08Photohunt: FreeI like to read 20 minutes while waiting for the train. It makes time pass by faster. I was lucky that there were a few left from Friday since it is not published on the weekends. 20 minutes is a daily commuter newspaper. 02.14.08What is Tiki?And, what exactly do you do with it? I bought a package of Tiki because it said on the package it was a Swiss tradition. I thought it would be fun to try out another Swiss product. I opened the package and found these little guys. This is what was inside. As an American, it reminded me of a SweeTart. 02.14.08Pirate rain boots...for navigating the waters of life. The back of the rain boots have reflectors for safe navigation! We found these rain boots at Dosenbach (a shoe store) where I found my comfy Swiss slippers about a month ago. We have bought many of our families shoes and boots there since moving to Switzerland.
