We bought Sweet Bear a birthday cake for her birthday. It is chocolate icing on yellow cake. She picked it because it had ballons painted on top of the cake on each side. In the middle we had “Happy Birthday Sweet Bear” written. She was very excited to get to pick out her own birthday cake.
It is the first American style birthday cake that she will have since she was one. I love French cakes but think that American birthday cakes are the more special for kids. Kids love all that sugar and colorful fun in one big rectangle! I know I did. I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I can’t wait to eat the icing off my own piece myself. I will most likely get Vilay’s icing, too. He typically scraps the icing off and just eats the cake. All we have to buy now is the French vanilla ice cream and we are all set for my Sweet Bear’s special day tomorrow.
I can still see her 8 pound 11 oz. body lying on top of my chest just after she was born. She cried so loud that the nurses even laughed and told me that she was going to be heard in this world for sure. And, so far she has been. She is my little fighter. But, under all that fight is a little girl who loves to snuggle and be tickled or kissed silly.
The other day I was rearranging all of our things in our bedroom. In a box I found the little pink ribbon that a nurse had put in your hair after your very first bath on the day you were born. I can still remember rubbing my lips on your soft baby hair and how sweet you smelled.
Happy Birthday to my Sweet Bear who is now four years old. I love you.
