These chickens are free to go all around the front and back yard of this house. They cross the small side street over to another other house where they then peck around the front and back of that yard. I have seen them in the parking lot behind one of these houses and often times they are in the side street. I have only seen them a few times in their pen or hen house which is shown in the back of the photo.
I can understand yarding being allowed in a small village but I think free range may be a little over the top.
No matter what I think, my children love it!

I had a truly free range chicken once allowed to go where ever it wished and it was so tough that it had to be boiled first before it was fried.
