Heat wave

View from our kitchen window in Strasbourg.

Yesterday, the temperture inside our apartment was 33.5 °C (92.3 °F) for the majority of the day. After 8:00 P.M. it started to drop (a little). Keep in mind that in France most people do not have airconditioning in their homes. We do not even own a fan. However, I never broke a sweat and was not uncomfortable.

The high heat can be very dangerous for the elderly and small children. So, we made our four children drink water all day long. They just kept their cups on the kitchen table and I would refill them every hour. I, also, took a damp wash rag and wiped them off. A long cool bath is a nice solution, too. They played in the bath for an hour as if it were a pool. I will wash my feet off when I am really hot and that seems to cool me off the fastest without taking a bath.

We went out for a walk after 8 last night to get some much needed fresh air.

Today isn’t supose to be as hot. I don’t know. It seems to be heating up again already and it is not even noon. It is currently 29.5 °C (85.1 °F) in our apartment. But, that has been the normal daily inside temp during this summer. Perhaps, the kids will get to play in the bath as a pool, again, today?
