If it costs more it must be better?!?

The other night I was talking with my mother’s neighbor who is a woman about the same age as me and she has four children like I do. We were talking about how each birth was different and about the care that we received at the hospitals where we delivered.

I had to hold my tongue when she told me that America has the best health care in the world and that must be why it is so expensive. I simply responded that France has wonderful health care and it is free. I just could not believe that she said that after all the news about how people were going to Canada to buy the same prescription drugs because in Canada the very same drugs are much cheaper. Boy, we have a long way to go if people in America think they are paying more because the health care is better. No, we are paying more because the doctors, drug and insurance companies are money hungry.

I have been waiting for two weeks now to see if I qualify for Ohio’s free health care system. Vilay doesn’t qualify because he is not an American citizen and he has not worked for at least five years in the States. I was covered from the first day in France as the wife of a French. I am happy that Ohio offers free health care. I just think that my husband should be covered. After all…I need him healthy. We need an employer to help provide insurance for him.
I am looking for a job but it is hard without a car. We are going to travel to Florida in less than a few weeks to pick up a car from my uncle. I am excited to visit Florida to see if we really want to live there. When I talk to my uncle I want to move right away. He was telling me how the first winter in Florida he put up his Christmas lights in swimming trunks. He said that even without snow, Florida becomes a winter wonderland with all the decorations and lights.

I love the beach and know that even in spite of the weather surprises I would be very happy there. Once I am sure that Vilay will like it, we will start planning our move for the beginning of next year. He is happy because he found online that Florida has the highest and fastest growing French speaking population in all of America. We would love for our children to go to a French school in America. The only problem is that the French school in Florida is in Miami which has one of the highest crime rates in America. That is just my luck.

I hope you’ll share more about the kids’ education if you send them to the French school, and I’d love to hear more about their use of English and French now that they’re in the US!

I will post next about the little issues we have experienced since returning to the States in regard to the children and language. So far it is working out but there were some bumps that I had not expected.
