Just a little too far

Angel thinks this commercial (that is on several times a day) is gross. She is not offended by the commercial or hiding her eyes. She simply doesn’t understand why they would make it because it is gross. It is too sexual. She asked me, “Why would they show it on tv? GOSH!”

While I am adjusting to the French openess in regard to nudity, I will never get used to the openess in regard to sex. I think this commercial is too sexual for children to see. Will it scar her for life? No, I don’t think so. However, is it really appropriate? No, I don’t think so. And, why is it ok to go topless on the beach but not ok to go topless at the pool? Just wondering.

I have never seen this commercial on French TV. But it is true I don’t watch TV very much. It didn’t really bug me. However, it looks more like a German commercial to me, even though the car is French.

Now, come on, a naked lady bug. Ouh la la. Way too sexual, man! I was turned on, I tell you what!
Ah, those bugs! Doing it in the nature wasn’t enough. Now they have to do it on TV. Sheesh!

I think the video that was uploaded was for German tv but we had just seen it on French public tv and that is what made me look for it.

Now, Jube….I have never seen two bugs going at it but I am sure it is not like that! That was a bit too human like I think. Again, I am an American and maybe for a French it is no big deal. But, for me as an American mother it was a little too close to the real thing for my comfort. I think naked ladybugs were not what bothered me. It was more the bumbing and grinding with steaming windows that did it.  Hmmm…it was more like f**king bugs in my opinion.  I think that is too far for children.  Kids don’t need to see even… bugs…f**king.  Do they?

    Hello Pumpkin,
The first time i have seen this commercial i was “died of laughing” (i don’t know if this has a meaning in english). Ok, maybe it’s because i’m french and don’t have any kids, but i think it’s no big deal. And I remembers to have seen dog doing that when I was child.
So my conclusion, the kids see the f**king dogs! ;)
Anyway, i love that part on the car window, it’s like the titanic movie! :)

ps: i enjoy your blog very much!

All I’m saying is, lady bugs should be allowed to screw on TV, and do it like humans if that’s what they like (“the wrong way” for them).
Plus, I have seen flies do it, and oh man, they were pretty wild.
I have also seen dragonflies do it, butt to butt, and one of them has to fly around backwards. Talk about kinky!

Ernestranglin, Well…you are right about the dogs. But, I don’t know if they would make a commercial showing it. Oh…I hope not! :) I do think it is my American upbringing but I can’t help it. I lived in America for over 30 years and only in France a little over 2. I thought it was funny when I saw it the first few times because no children were around. And, you are right about the car window…I thought the same thing. My 3 year old thinks the lady bugs are dancing and my 1 and 2 year old barely notice the tv. It was only when my 10 year old told me that it was gross did the American in me come out.

See this is why blogging is good for me. I get to talk about it. Since I started this blog and began reading others, I have learned more about the French culture and life as well as starting my journey in understanding and assimilating into that culture. Sometimes, I have to fight with the American in me and other times I am happy and free from my old uptight ways. I just need more time. I wish I could have started a blog when I first moved to France so that I could go back and read old posts. Ohhhh, my it would have been interesting!!! ;)

I had to laugh at this, but I see your point, Pumpkin. I’m glad my ex doesn’t have the TV hooked up to an antenna! ;-)

But…I’d rather have my kids see sex on TV than a murder.

Jube, I think you can see my point as an American and you are just pushing me which is fine. I think when you go to America (which may be soon) you will be just as bothered by the other extreme. Then, it is you that will have to adjust. That is how it works…countries don’t change for one person. However, talking about what bothers me helps me to grow and accept that. See my response above which I must have been writing when you wrote yours.

Alison, I completely agree about the violence on American tv and the news…so, it is in real life too. One of the reasons I wanted to move our family to France was because I was tired of all the murders on the news. We lived in a nice part of Dayton but it was not uncommon to here about a murder every other day from around the city or neighboring cities.

Don’t worry. At college at Wittenberg, the guys next room on the left had an orgy every week-end, and the guy next room on the left had quotes of the Bible all over his walls.
I loved it man. Go extremes!

I don’t find the Ad at all offensive…just very silly – I mean its a car, darn it! I don’t ‘get’ the point of that Ad at all…unless its just meant to make us laugh.

But yeah – I do tend to agree with the other commenters..it was kind of ‘innocent fun’ sex and my boys certainly know all about it already and would just find that ad funny.

It probably does have evrything to do with the way we are brought up – my father would have found that Ad very offensive.

  • kim June 23, 2006, 6:09 pm

    i loved that ad!!

It is too funny, Pickles thought it was funny, we try not to put a stigma or make it taboo, so we just laughed about it..the whole thing made me laugh, the music, the bugs, the looks, the steamy windows…hahaha

  • roland June 23, 2006, 7:22 pm

    relax it’s only bugs!
now let’s see what happen to teddy bear when you leasten stupid music to loud?

  • Pumpkin June 23, 2006, 7:29 pm

Roland, That was too funny. Thank you for the laugh. I will keep thinking about my American puritan ways and maybe after two more years in France I will think nothing of these sort of commercials.

Remember those Spontex commercials with the hedgehog(s)? :-)

That is one of the reasons I do not watch TV. I have no kids but I am a complete prude. I find it not disgusting but just awful. Like when we first came to France I switched on TV and there was this tv screen full of bimbos, it made me feel unconfortable and the amount of clothing… And it was like 4PM!
Anyway I do not watch TV and we only keep it for football and F1, but I don’t even think that going topless in the beach or by the pool is alright. I remember my friend telling me go topless, and I said:
Try fixing two watermelons on your chest then take of you bra and then try to walk. My breasts are uncomfortably big and even though the guys say: Oh we don’t care we don’t see… Of course they see they are not blind. And I am shy and I wouldn’t do it to save my life! No, I disagree with any sexual advertisments, any violance and any topless or even less clothed girls on TV. That’s why I don’t watch it. I also disagree with going topless to the beach and that’s why I don’t go to the beach. It is my problem, and I know sex is all around us blah blah blah but is it really neccessary to put pornographic magazines in childs eye level? I think I better shut up because I could go on for hours. Overall I agree with your daughter it is totally gross. And one thing, violence is just as bad but then we could say we are surrounded by violence or are we trying to do make love not war stuff again?
