Katie,
Thanks for your comment. I had someone else email about the very same thing. I would have never dreamed Chivers was a last name but it is a cool last name. ;)

I came across your blog as I was looking at websites that contain my name (Katie Chivers). Divine is one of the coolest things I have heard or seen in a very long time. Thanks! :)

I was reading online yesterday that Tellier is most likely going to rewrite his song Divine to include more French due to pressure from the French public. He stated that if he had personally chosen a song for the Eurovision it would have been in French but it was France 3 that chose Divine.

It would be nice if France won. You know that is who we are cheering for. :)

Hi Pumpkin,
I also think it would be more interesting if they all sang in their native language. I think most of them choose English because they want the other countries to understand the song, get to like it and more likely vote for it.
I also think countries don't send their best performers to the contest. As to why, I have no idea.
I hope this year they have great songs. I am in the States and I will miss it, but I will read all about it on the Internet.
GO FRANCE! :-)

Katie,
I wanted to add that I do like the Eurovision (I was probably not clear about that before) and find it very entertaining. I don't know how many times I have watched it with tears in my eyes because I had laughed so hard. Plus, I adore seeing the customes of other countries and seeing them mix traditional dance with modern music. :)

There was a Serb that sang in the first Eurovision I watched. I felt he should have won because he was that good. He didn't. However, I do think it was in part because he sung in Serbian. Yet, it was my favorite performance that night.

Katie,
Vilay and I watch Eurovision for entertainment because the costumes and the performances are very creative.

What upsets me about the contestants singing in bad English is that it is not their language (that was my point in the post) and it would be better if they sang in their own language unless they CAN sing well in English.

Actually, I wish that the rule that all countries have to sing in one of their official languages would be brought back.

I love it when a country sings in its own language. It is more interesting for me because I am exposed to their culture which was the original point of Eurovision. Now, most of the contestants that win are the ones that sung in English which I think is sad.

I can't believe that all countries put their best forward because many of the contestants can't sing. However, that is part of the fun for Vilay and I. We get to laugh at them.

I like the politics of the countries voting for each other while it drives my husband mad. He thinks the voting is stupid because the same countries always vote for each other without regard to which countries entries are best.

I am originally from Europe and I really miss watching the Eurovision Song Contest. To me that represents a must get-together with my girlfriends, lots of junk food, commenting on the songs, the choreography, the clothes (some of them pretty hilarious). You can never really predict who is going to be a winner, and the voting part is very interesting because (I think) it involves a lot of politics (alliances among the different countries).
Pumpkin, their English is bad because thats not their native language ;-) , and although the competition is not American Idol, I think its a pretty unique show. All the countries get together and perform, showing their "best".
I say, give it a try, it can be pretty entertaining! Enjoy!
