Expatraveler,
I am so happy for you about the move!! I can feel that you are happier when I read your blog.
My kids speak French with the other kids. I think the problem is my kids are good kids and the other kids see that they can take advantage of that.

Erin,
I can see where you are coming from and have argued that some point with myself. However, the issue really is that the kids here are violent and not just bullies.

Since moving here my kids have been hit and spit on more times than I can count. My youngest daughter at three years old was hit in the arm with a BB from a BB gun. My son at two was pushed with force face down in the snow by a seven year old boy (the same boy who shot my daughter with the BB gun and happens to be the son of our concierge). My son was bit on the face by a six year old boy. I have more stories I could add about the kids here and their parents that I don't blog about but the main concern for me is that we are currently living in what is called a "quartier". Even if it doesn't look so bad at first glance...it is the people that live here that make it what it is. Plus, in the winter we have black mold in almost every room and there is no privacy because you can hear pretty much everyone in this building. We didn't know at the time that it was what it was or we would have waited to move to Switzerland until we found something better. The thing is that if we don't move soon my son will be older and for him it will be much worse than for my daughters. On top of everything...most of what is done to my kids is done with me right there and I yell at the other kids and have talked to their parents...which equals nothing. So, we want to move to give our kids a shot at a 'normal' life without daily violence and people that just do not care about others.

I'm glad to hear that your girls had a great first day in school and less so to hear about the neighborhood bully. Unfortunately while physical violence is surprising, moving will not keep your children safe from bullies forever. I had a wonderful childhood, lived in a wonderful area and like all children, one day discovered that other kids can be mean and cruel...luckily I had parents and friends who taught me self-worth. You can't run from bullies but you can learn to not let them get you down. ...geesh, sorry it sounds like I was on a soapbox there...not exactly what i was aiming for but I think you get the idea

Mom,
Your teacher must have seated her class by their last names. I am sure it didn't take her long to figure out what you were doing! :)

The girls are going together for the second day today. So, we'll see how it goes. Petite Clown is super shy and Sweet Bear isn't shy at school now.

Sometimes it's not good for sisters to be in the same classroom. When I was in first grade my older sister was in the same room as me. She was held back because she missed too much school due to illness. Well I would look over my should and copy her work. She made A's and so did I! lol The teacher figured it out. I got moved to the other side of the class. lol But I loved being in the same classroom as my sister.

I love you, Mom

Oh pumpkin, I just read about those kids! This happened to P growing up in Quebec as he spoke English . I'm not sure if it is because of that, but no kid should ever do that.. I wish that they would have to wear a hat all week saying what they did to put shame to them..

I hope it works out no matter what you do.

How fascinating! This weekend I move to Victoria. I think I will have so many fascinating places to take photos of. It's so much more European there and well it's waaay flatter too! Much easier to get around daily...

I love your photos, they make me smile as always.
