I forgot how much work setting up a new blog can be. Finding a template was the hardest considering how long the photos were side by side. The photos broke most every theme that is available on WordPress.com. There is one photo blog theme available but it doesn’t have a sidebar and we wanted one.
My daughter wanted hearts to be somewhere in the theme and that was a problem considering that WordPress.com doesn’t let you make permanent changes to the template without paying. Perhaps later we will go that direction but for now we are doing this for fun and as a way to bond. So, I had to find a theme that the photos didn’t break and that I could upload a logo or photo header of some sort.
I finally found a theme that I could use a logo or small photo with. I took the photos above to use in the header but the background was too blue causing the photos to stand out like a sore thumb. I wanted the theme to remain white and red, sweet and simple. No blue.
In the end, I went ahead and drew a logo on white paper for the photo blog that I hope my daughter will like. It took me five minutes to draw and then I scanned the picture to download on my hard drive. Afterwards, I uploaded it to the blog.
When my daughter is here for Christmas break I will teach her how to do everything that I did so that she can change anything that she wants to.
I am so honored and happy to be doing this with her. I can’t wait to see what we come up for our next post on Monday!
Our Heart String – It is all set up and now all we have to do is take photos and have fun!
