Passerelle pedestrian bridge in Kehl, Germany

The NATO summit held in April of 2009 began on the Passerelle pedestrian bridge which crosses over the Rhine river connecting Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany. We took the photos below during our summer vacation in Strasbourg. It was a touching moment to walk across this bridge knowing that I had crossed it both before and after President Obama. As I crossed this symbolic bridge, I felt that the past was in the past. I felt that with each step that I took over the same path that President Obama (my president) and other NATO leaders had taken just a few months before that new beginnings had been stirred up. I truly hope these beginnings grow into strong bonds that last enriching the lives of my children and the children of others.

Old doors were closed and new doors were opened by simply crossing over a bridge.
