One day blog silence

April 18, 2007

For one day the blogsphere will be silent to show respect for those that died at Virginia tech and out of respect for the families that lost a loved one there. Lorelle wrote a nice post about this subject that I invite you to read. Go ahead and click the link. You won’t be disappointed. [...]

Sex, Cheese and French Fries

April 14, 2007

The subtitle is “Women are perfect, Men are from France.”  I think that sums up the book.  Carine Fabius writes about her relationship with her husband who happens to be French.  She describes how he is difficult and lovable rolled all up into one person.  Below is a quote from her book which demonstrates this [...]

Fans come in all sizes

March 7, 2007

#7 jersey is Nate, #10 is Nick, #12 is Caleb A clever girl by the name of Caity came up with this great photo idea. Everyone hates this huge statue of Jesus on I-75 near Middletown, Ohio. But, everyone likes to make fun of it, too. I about died from laughing the first time I [...]

Mardi gras (Fat Tuesday)

February 21, 2007

Picture was taken at the maternelle where my girls go. Petite Clown almost always closes her eyes when her picture is taken. Yesterday, we walked into the girls schoolyard surrounded by princesses, Spiderman, a magician and many other superheros and ghouls. Sweet Bear and Petite Clown wore their costumes from this past Halloween to school. [...]

Cultural differences in parenting

February 20, 2007

My son has started speaking French!  He has said lait (milk), oh la la (very important), and oui (yes).  He hasn’t started to say no in English or French like the girls did.  No was pretty much one of the very first words that the girls said.  It is still one of their favorite words unfortunately.  That [...]

All wet

February 14, 2007

I really miss clothes dryers.  Of course, dryers are sold in France.  But, it is not something that has become a part of every household as it has in America.  With three small children a dryer is almost a necessity.  In the summer clothes can dry quickly.  The problem is in our old apartment (like many in France) there is [...]

My France

February 8, 2007

We made it and are slowly getting the kids back on French time.  They have had it the hardest adjusting to when it is day or night thanks to a mild case of jetlag.  Boy Blue was terrible during the flight from Cincinatti to Paris.  He became so frustrated that he threw his pacifer as hard as [...]

Like a fish out of water

February 5, 2007

When I first arrived back in the States after living as an expat for two and a half years in France, I had a bit of culture shock.  I didn’t like most of the food.  The same food that I would dream about in France.  It no longer tasted like I remembered it.  Instead, it tasted too [...]

Tomorrow

February 4, 2007

Tomorrow, we are going back to France.  A week has passed in what seemed like a few days.  I am nervous about the suitcases.  I have them sitting in a row one behind the other.  We will be taking six suitcases.  The rest will be made up of three car seats two of which will [...]

The boxer got a strike

February 3, 2007

My mother’s dog, Roxy, was running through the living room at full speed. Roxy is a very muscular female boxer. She ran full speed right into me. Her head slammed with great force into my lower right leg. I fell to the ground crying out in pain. I couldn’t walk for two hours without limping. [...]

Packing it all up

February 1, 2007

In my mind and heart I will be running to get on the plane back to France.  The only regret is that I must once again leave my family behind.  Of course, we will talk on the phone.  Angel will visit.  Perhaps after time my mother and father will come.  My brother has already promised [...]

I l.o.v.e. my French

January 22, 2007

My mother had told me about a three bedroom apartment that is available near her home.  She had seen a sign advertising it on her way to work.  Vilay and I went to the complex to inquire about the three bedroom apartment.  My mother knew that it is an income based apartment.  If it wasn’t [...]

Sigh of relief

January 18, 2007

My mother called me and asked if she could sponsor Vilay.  We haven’t been on speaking terms.  However, we are family.  I couldn’t stop the tears.  The stress caused by this sponsor requirement was too much.  I was beginning to be scared, really scared, for my children.

Second opinion

January 18, 2007

I have called a local immigration lawyer that was refered to me by the Dayton bar association.  My father is totally financially responsible for Vilay if he decides to sponsor Vilay.  However, I was told by the lawyer that they have never heard of this being enforced.  For example, if Vilay were in a car accident [...]

Deflated

January 18, 2007

I talked to Catholic Community Services today.  I was told that my father would be totally responsible for Vilay even if he were in an accident.  I was, also, told that I could be declined as a sole sponsor due to my having not worked in the last three years even if I found a [...]
