Avenches, Switzerland (part II)

Avenches was the capital of Roman Switzerland (Helvetia) which explains the many Roman ruins that are found there.  At this time, Avenches was called Aventicum (a Roman settlement around 15-13 B.C.) and had a population of around 20,000.
