Avenches, Switzerland (part II)

Avenches was the capital of Roman Switzerland (Helvetia) which explains the many Roman ruins that are found there. 
At this time, Avenches was called Aventicum (a Roman settlement around 15-13 B.C.) and had a population of around 20,000. Currently, the population is around 3,000.

Sunday, we visited Avenches, Switzerland.
We were excited to see a real Roman amphitheater but we found so much more. We plan on returning in the summer so that we can explore this city more in depth. It is worth another visit!
