Beautiful

This sky made me stop in my tracks and reflect on how beautiful this world is.
We only have to look for the beauty and not be distracted by the ugliness in the world.
I think people tend to focus on what is “bad” or “different” when in fact it is not either.  Really.
As an ex-pat I have caught myself [...]

Larger classes

We asked how many children were in each of our girls classes.
Petite Clown (age 3) - has 27
Sweet Bear (age 4) - has 31
The funny thing is the classes never seem to have that many kids running around in them.
Yesterday, I counted heads sitting in a circle around Sweet Bear’s teacher just before dismissal.  I [...]

Not allowed!?!

Whenever, we are in Germany I have to smile at this sign.  For a foreigner it is not clear.  at.  all.
For me it means…
No men are allowed to walk, children must not play with balls, no cars or houses are allowed here.

And, this sign means that it o.k. to do all of those things?
I really [...]

Cultural differences in parenting

My son has started speaking French!
He has said lait (milk), oh la la (very important), and oui (yes).  He hasn’t started to say no in English or French like the girls did.  No was pretty much one of the very first words that the girls said.  It is still one of their favorite words unfortunately.
That brings me [...]

From my French window

I have changed my blog’s name back to it’s original title.  I decided that it was best to put everything back as it was before we move to the States.  From my French window is perfect because this blog is a story about my personal life in France.
I was thinking about creating a photoblog with [...]

A castle for the birds

Sweet Bear was sitting at the kitchen table finishing her lunch.  She has two hours for déjeuner (lunch) and then she returns to école to finish out her day which ends at 4:05.
Petite Clown goes only in the morning since les petits only take a nap in the afternoon.  Besides mornings are hard enough for [...]

All wet

I really miss clothes dryers.  Of course, dryers are sold in France.  But, it is not something that has become a part of every household as it has in America.
With three small children a dryer is almost a necessity.  In the summer clothes can dry quickly.  The problem is in our old apartment (like many in France) there is not [...]

Hard one

Sweet Bear is stubborn.  Each day is hard with her and for her.  She wants everything her way or no way.  Of course, she doesn’t get her way.  But, that doesn’t keep her from trying.
Yesterday, we were waiting for Vilay in the car while he changed our address with La Poste.  All of our mail [...]

Joys of Auchan

Auchan in Strasbourg
When I first went to Auchan with Vilay it was as a tourist.  I had came for a 9 day visit with Angel Girl and I needed film for my camera.  The next time I would visit Auchan would be some years later and it was to shop.  I had to ask Vilay [...]

Images of our life

I love taking pictures.
I regret that after we moved out of my mother’s house that I couldn’t take more pictures of our life in America.  The cable for uploading picures from our digital camera was left in France.  We were using my mother’s camera until we moved in with my father which was only two [...]
