Since moving to Switzerland, we have gotten our share of telemarketers.
I get out of it easily enough since I can pretend I don’t understand or speak French. But, it is still annoying to run to answer the phone only to be greeted by a telemarketer.
The first time I listened to this recording of Tom Mabe talking with a telemarketer, I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. While it is not really politically correct, the situation the telemarketer is put into is funny.

Too bad they don’t have a “National Do Not Call” registry like they instituted here in the U.S. a few years ago. Things got a LOT quieter around here after we signed up for it.
Cathy, I believe that there is a system put in place here. I need to find it today because we are getting calls every other day and sometimes twice a day. In the US, we were on the registry. It made a huge difference.
Well, I’m on that list, but these darn telemarketers call me all the time anyway and pretend they “don’t see” my name on that list. I allways get very rude with these guys and have even contemplated suing them for not respecting me being on the list.
But this thing here (I too had tears from laughing so hard) gives me a whole bunch of new ideas! I think I actually need to write a blog entry on it myself (you’ll get credited of course).

In the States, you can complain and the company gets a $10,000.00 fine the first time. If I were you I would start writing down their names…make sure you ask them so they know you are taking note…date, time of call and company…then, ask them nicely not to call again and if they do you are going to take the next step…whatever that may be in Switzerland.
If you do a recording like the one above I will admire you forever! I could never do it without busting out laughing. :)
