Tom’s of Maine

I have stopped using chemical based deodorants.  I, now, only use Tom’s of Maine.  Why?  Because…it is safe.  It works better.  I love the smell (I use Lavender and Vilay uses Woodspice).

When we arrived back in Ohio this past summer, I soon remembered how HOT and HUMID it can get here.  I was putting deodorant on at least twice a day to combat that hot sweaty smell that I never got in France.  I can’t believe I forgot about it because it is terrible!

If you want to try a natural deodorant but don’t know which one to pick, I would suggest Tom’s.  I, finally, got Vilay to try it a couple of weeks ago and so far so good.

I did find that the first few weeks my skin was a little irritated.  I was told that it was normal because chemical based deodorants work so well because they keep you from sweating at all.  That means all those bad things are staying in your body with no way out.  So, when you first start using a natural deodorant it takes about 1 to 2 weeks for your body to clean out all those toxins.

I don’t know if that is true or not.  However, after about 2 weeks of use the irritation went away.  I had been using chemical deodorants for over 20 years.  Never again.  I am going to buy Angel some Tom’s deodorant because I really don’t want her to use the chemical based ones.  The next tube of toothpaste will be Tom’s as well.  I will let you know if it is worth giving a try or not.  I have used Crest since I was a kid and it killed me when I couldn’t get Crest toothpaste in France (only the white strips are available).  So, if I switch from Crest to Tom’s toothpaste it will be a huge event.

I love Tom’s toothpaste. It’s much less “sweet” than toothpastes like Crest or Colgate. I’ll have to give the deodorant a try…

Now we can both have organic yellow teeth. ;-) My parents have made us use it our whole lives. But I guess it pays to be humble. I, however have always refused to wear the deoderant. My sister always tells me that if you sweat like crazy it doesn’t work.

Remember that there is a difference between plain deodorant and anti-perspirant/deodorant. Deodorant is just for odor and anti-perspirant/deodorant is for perspiration and odor. I personally like having an anti-perspirant, but I guess “to each, his own” as the saying goes. I’ve lived in the South too long, I guess.

Pumpkin, I mean… Madame, I’ve been meaning to try Tom’s (toothpaste and deodorant) for a very long time, but then, I just did inventory in my shed and I counted about 8 colgate total toothpastes that I just remembered paying .19 each (6.4oz. after double coupons in my local supermarket), and also, several brands of deodorantes that if I’m not mistaken, I paid nothing or just a few cents each. Do you see why I’ve been delaying trying Tom’s??? :)

I hope you and your family are well. I read your blog every day!

People can be very loyal to their toothpaste. I’m a Colgate person all the way. :)
