The winners of the Webby Awards 2006 have been released. Click on over to see who won. Many winners were not a surprise to me. The Webby awards are a nice way to find new websites of interest that I would not have found otherwise. That pretty much is all these kinds of awards are good for in my opinion.
I see many websites and blogs out there without awards that are as good if not better than the blogs or websites that have had awards. So, I really don’t put much stock in these kinds of things.
Having said that I will say that the Webby’s have grown into a kind of glamorous award ceremony not unlike the Grammy’s. So, it is about being popular. The websites that were selected for the finals are wonderful and popular for a reason. I just don’t like the label “best of the web”. And, why didn’t Dooce win anything?
The best of the web is the opinion of the judges.
