09.08.08Appenzeller cheeseSince moving to Switzerland we have discovered Appenzeller [A-pent-seller] cheese. It is a strong smelling cheese that even I cannot resist. I, normally, cannot get over the barnyard smell that characterizes most washed-rind cheeses. However, I have no problem eating my share of Appenzeller. C'est tres bon!!! 09.04.08Sunday walk in the JuraSunday, I made homemade peanut butter cookies which did not last long at all! We took a long walk from Les Breuleux to Le Peuchapatte and back to work off some of those cookies! It was a total of 8 km which is close to 5 miles. 09.01.08GoumoisGoumois is a little special. Why, you may ask? Well, Goumois is two villages. One is French and the other is Swiss. The villages are divided by the Doubs River with a bridge joining them. Before the Treaty of Vienna Goumois was one village but afterwards it was separated into two. The two villages are different even if the name is the same due to the cultural differences of the French and Swiss. Can you believe that with a population of only a little over 2100 inhabitants, Saignelégier is the capital of the Franches-Montagnes? A church in the city. The other side of the church with road construction. The street has been torn up for some time but it is finally almost completed. 08.26.08Day in BernWe walked for about four hours in Bern on Saturday. I shared some of the photos with you already but thought I'd share a few more. There was a big market where we bought some fruit to snack on. We watched a rally supporting Georgia. The sign reads "The more Europe cares, the fewer are the victims!" 08.19.08ThingsSmall Swiss cowbell we bought from a vendor set up outside the Marché Concours in Saignelegier. Cup and saucer given to us by my husband's aunt and uncle in Prague. These cat decorations are seen all over Prague. I love the whimsical feeling and the bright spring colors. Saucer alone. Cup alone. We moved into our apartment with close to nothing.
