Winter Wonderland

by Pumpkin on November 9, 2007

Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I stretched to see what the kids were so excited about. Their shrills of happiness pushed me right out of sleep and into the day. Looking up I saw snow not falling but blowing from the sky. It was coming down hard and reminded me of a rain storm.

As I am typing this it is still coming down hard but the flakes are visible and criss-crossing each other like in a winter wonderland. It is beautiful.

Vilay and I have been waiting for our first snow in Switzerland. We are excited to be in a new country together. When we learned our village even has a ski slope near by we looked at each other like Wow, we are in Switzerland! Snow is a part of life here. Nothing stops because of snow and everyone naturally adjusts to it. For a Swiss it is as natural to wear snow boots in winter as it is to wear sandals in summer. I haven’t had a pair of snow boots since I was a kid living in Ohio during the worst of winters.

My camera’s memory card isn’t working. When I open it I get a “write protect” warning. I am unable to delete any pictures and therefore cannot empty the card to take more pictures.

Vilay and I will go this weekend and see about a USB cord for the other camera and new memory cards. It seems like everything is breaking in our apartment lately. The kids broke our DVD player by getting a DVD stuck inside. I still have to figure out how to get it out. The television has become temperamental working only when it feels like it, our computer has been threatening to die for months and now I can’t take pictures of all this snow that we are getting!

I am a little upset since it is our first real snow in Switzerland. I hope we get one of the two cameras running this weekend and pray the computer keeps threatening to die and doesn’t kill over for real.

It is hard not being able to take pictures and when I am not able to get online I feel cut off from the world.

Wow! The snow is blowing down hard again. We may get more snow today than I have seen in years.

Sweet Bear will be wearing her snow pants to school today!

hello miss pumpkin
if your card is an SD may be it’s the little lock button on the
left side !

Mad William,

Thank you! :)

Roland,

Nope. Not an SD. My other camera uses a SD and I saw what you were talking about. It looks like we’ll have to find a fix. I wish I could just buy a new camera.

Oh how lovely! It brings happiness to my eyes. We all believe you for sure and it is wonderful… We just have rain here for another month or more… And with snow, you usually get beautiful sunny days..

I love love love love the new look. :) But I’m visual. hehe

Chance you have snow there
we didn t have for a long time now…

SwissGuy November 9, 2007 at 5:08 pm

Well, you don’t live on the Swiss Plateau but a little higher up in the Jura Mountains (I guess at around 950-1000 metres?) but I can tell you that this is one of the earliest times for the first snow in some years!

Last year, there was almost no snow at all, all winter long.

I also had some snowflakes today when I was in Fribourg.

Enjoy it!

Put your memory card in your computer. Click on My Computer and find your memory card. Right click on it and select format. This will erase everything on the card, but there is a good chance it will work after that.

*shudder* No snow here thank goodness – the cold snap yesterday was enough to make me yearn for summer but snow would make me run south!

I hope Pumpkin’s computer hasn’t died. Pumpkin, are you and your family doing okay?

patdem November 16, 2007 at 8:08 pm

I hope too.

Pumpkin and Vilay are no longer blogging. I’m sure they ordered a new computer for christmas and i really hope they’re both doing okay.

Maybe they are under the snow, we should do something to rescue them.
If we don’t have news before this week-end, we HAVE to do something.

What do u think…

yes we miss you dearly! I hope all is okay… I know you have had lots of lovely snow though!

Yes, I read on the BBC website that the snow has come early and plentiful this year and I, as a Snow Bunny, am so envious of you folk as you wake up to a winter wonderland….

Hey Pumpkin – We miss you dearly! I hope the computer is on the mend and everything is okay. In hoping you make an appearance soon, I’ve nominated you for a blog award!

Don’t worry. Our computer broke so we will have to wait to buy a new one. We should get one this month. Pumpkin and I are fine and we soon will be back so just be patient you all.

Cathy Y. December 6, 2007 at 3:08 am

I just looked over at Vilay’s blog and saw that he posted from an internet cafe on December 1 stating (the best I can tell, running it through a translator) that their computer was down but that they hoped to get another one soon. I’ve been checking this blog at least 2-3 times daily and thus glad to see from Vilay’s blog that it’s just the computer and nothing worse wrong at home there. Pumpkin, we’ll be glad to see you back when you come back! Take care!

I can read the headlines: “Sensation: Blogger found buried beneath 2 metres of snow…could be reanimated and is in perfect health…says she doesn’t know how much time has passed…nearby, also a mammoth was found”

;-)

Hilarious, Swiss Guy! :-)

expatraveler December 15, 2007 at 4:44 pm

Hi Cathy – yes it is the computer, but a few other major things broke at the same time also. I’m sure they will be back as soon as they can. I’m hoping Santa gives them what they need. ;-)

Swiss guy – great one!
